July 29 - Aug 3 2018, Boston / Cambridge, USA
The "Cambridge Workshops of Cool Stars, Stellar Systems and the Sun" are held biennially and have evolved to be the premier conference series for cool star research.
Information that was relevant during the conference (e.g. poster dimensions,
talk instructions) has been moved to the bottom of this page.
Proceedings
Please submit proceedings until November 15th 2018 (deadline extended!).
Proceedings for Cool Stars 20 will be entirely electronic. Submission will be handled using Zenodo, an EU funded data and project repository, and then indexed on the ADS. All submissions are assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) number through Zenodo, making contributions citeable, before indexing to ADS to make contributions discoverable. Submission to the arXiv in parallel with submission to the conference proceedings is encouraged. Contributions are accepted from invited plenary session reviews, contributed plenary session talks and splinter session talks, and contributed posters. In addition, collective contributions from (parallel) splinter sessions and contributions from the CS20 hack day are welcome. If you would like to submit a typical conference proceeding, there are no formal page limits. However for some guidance, we recommend you limit yourself to 4-8 pages for contributed talks and 10-15 pages for invited talks. Those wishing to submit a written conference proceeding are encouraged to format the document using the Cool Stars 20 LaTeX document class. All such submissions should be made as PDFs and will be reviewed for content by the SOC and we may suggest edits.
Submission of presentation slides from speakers and full posters are also encouraged. PDF versions of these documents are the preferred format for Zenodo contributions to permit the documents to be previewed in a web browser. For maximum impact, you can submit both, a written contribution and your presentation slides and/or a poster to provide greater context. Contributions will be checked for the proper metadata.
Check out our detailed instructions.

Talks
Invited speakers should plan for a talk of 25 min plus 10 min for questions. Contributed talks should be 12 min long plus 3 min for questions. The resolution of the projector is 1920 x 1080 (so the format is 16:9). Presentations need to be uploaded onto our computer before the talk, so contact an LOC member at least 2 hours before your talk. Our computers provide standard presentation software for pdf, PowerPoint, KeyNote, LibreOffice and OpenOffice as well as webbrowsers and software for common movie formats. If you have any special requirements, please contact us at cs20@cfa.harvard.edu before the conference.
Posters
There are two poster rooms where posters can be displayed throughout the conference (Monday to Friday). Both of them are adjacent to the main auditorium. We will provide all hardware required to hang up posters. The space for each poster is a square where each side is $$1.75\times10^{-9}R_{\odot}=122\;\textrm{cm}=4.0\;\textrm{ft}$$ long.
Registration for conference
Our facilities can support about 500 attendees. Based on the
previous Cool Stars meetings, we expect that every interested
astronomer should have a chance to join in, but the only guarantee is
to register early. Early registration is 475 $ till May 1st. After
that the price will increase to 550 $ (regular registration) till June
15th. Late registration will be 600 $. Full registration includes the
opening reception on Sunday, access to the conference on all five
days with coffee breaks and the conference dinner on Thursday. We
offer 1-d registration for 125 $ / day (which includes coffee breaks
but not the opening reception or banquet) as well as extra guest
tickets for the opening reception or the banquet.
At the time of registration you can also book one of
the excursions.
We accept all major credit cards. Registration and credit card
processing is handled by secure servers of the Smithsonian Institution.
Click here to be forwarded to the payment form. Contact Jenine Humber if you have any
problems or questions related to registration and payment.
Registration Cancellation Policy
Cancellations must be received in writing or via email by June 15, 2018 for a full refund less a $30 processing charge. Cancellations received June 15, 2018 through July 15, 2018 receive a 50% refund. Cancellations made after July 16, 2018, or persons who do not appear at the workshop are not eligible for any refund.
Tour/Banquet Policy

See here.
Registration for CIAO workshop
The CIAO workshop requires a separate registration (at no cost
except maybe for pizza) here.
The workshop will take place on Sunday July 28th, at
the
Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. We'll distribute specific
directions how to get there closer to the meeting.
Registration for hack day
The Hack day requires a separate registration (no cost except maybe
for
pizza)
in this form and attendance is
limited to 50 people first come-first served. If all spots are filled,
we'll keep a wait list, so please let us know if you registered but
your plans changed!
The Hack day will take place on Saturday Aug 4th, at
the
Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. We'll distribute specific
directions how to get there closer to the meeting.
